The Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health (ACAMH), Pembroke Athleta and Mental Health Malta, with the support of Eurosport and We Are Water have teamed up and will be organising the third edition of the Run for Mental Wellbeing. This will be taking place on the 2nd November and starts at Mount Carmel Hospital grounds at 2.30pm. The aim is to raise awareness on children’s mental health, breaking the stigma associated with it, whilst raising funds which will contribute to the organisation of education and training for professionals – such as conferences on mental health.

Mental health is a public health matter. Early identification and treatment of mental disorders are crucial in a child’s development. This is especially significant in the first few years of life, when undiagnosed and subsequently untreated issues may have longer term effects on the overall child’s ability to achieve their potential throughout life. Mental health in young people is known as the ‘chronic disease of the young’’. The 5 most common causes of death between the ages of 15 to 24 years are all from mental disorders apart from road traffic accidents. WHO reports that sports is one of the 5 main ingredients to ensure good mental wellbeing. Sports is an effective way to manage one’s low moods and anxieties. ACAMH is thus combining physical exercise with mental health.

The event involves 5 and 10 kilometer runs and a 5 kilometer walk departing from Mount Carmel Hospital at 14.30, 14.35 and 14.40 respectively. They will then be followed by a children’s fun run departing from Mount Carmel Hospital at 15.30. Goody bag, race number and event info can be collected from Eurosport B’Kara on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th October between 4.30pm and 6.30pm. A colourful Joluvi technical t-shirt is given free with the goody bag collected.

All those wishing to participate should apply on www.pembrokeathleta.com.
